Welcome back to school! The 2008-2009 school year marks the UAPA's fourth year in operation. To date we have bred many provincial, national and international calibre athletes, raised a substantial amount of funds to support our cause and organized seven sanctioned powerlifting meets, this year we will be looking to expand upon these efforts.

To date, our club has raised funds in large part through granting from the Student’s Union and the Campus Recreation Enhancement Fund and we’ve reinvested those funds in the form of new equipment for the Fitness and Lifestyle Centre at the University of Alberta. A large portion of this equipment will be arriving in the coming weeks and will be placed in our primary training space located in W-98A of the Van Vliet Centre, opposite the main weight room. The new equipment, which includes; several Olympic lifting platforms, ER adjustable squat/bench racks, Eleiko bars and calibrated plates, and various other accessories, will help make us not only the biggest powerlifting club in the nation but the most well equipped. With this influx of new equipment we would also like to add to our roster of dedicated powerlifters. Whether you are a first time lifter or an international caliber powerlifter we think the UAPA has something to offer you, so come join us for a training session!

Please keep in mind that we do not have any professional staff in terms of coaches or other administrators, and as such, we are not a ‘powerlifting training’ or ‘personal training’ service. Our primary goals are to foster the growth of our small sport (and related sports) through establishing a productive training environment, and through active participation of interested individuals with more experienced lifters. Our members will be happy to help you establish training routines or discuss various training ideas, but direct coaching is not something we do at this time. This is an organization fully administered and executed by students, and as such we have academic obligations which do not allow us to be available at all times. Our training times (in W-95A) are as follows:

Monday - 6-9pm
Wednesday - 6-9pm
Friday - 6-9pm
Saturday - 11am-2pm

If you think the UAPA fits your interests please visit us in room W98-A in the Van Vliet Center, or contact us through the "About UAPA" section of this website.

Thanks,
The Executive
